i once heard a legend from my hair dresser

that one of our neighbors lost his wife on christmas,

and in honor of her loving memory, decorated his house

each and every holiday season with beautiful lights.

... and it was such a romantic story that i almost believed him,

 until i realized that the neighbor he was speaking of

 was my uncle- who does not have- nor has ever lost a wife,

 but rather enjoys decorating for each season because 

he loves it and because he's fabulous.

halloween being his favorite holiday--

i thought i would dedicate this post to him!

♥ her name was lola.

i must admit, i occasionally enjoy watching bad romantic comedies-

the kind that send nick running out of the room- the kind that no

person should pay money to see in theaters, movies like

  lola versus,which depict women at their shallowest- 

obsessing over their bodies, their food intake

 and relationships.

the only good part of the entire film experience was lola's wallpaper,

which i discovered is foxy flowers wallpaper by elli popp.

elli popp is a london-based luxury company offering the

romantic wallpaper, fabric and home accessories

of artist and color designer, katja behre.

aren't her designs so dreamy??

this halloween, i didn't make it to any costume parties,

but i did manage to dress up in halloween chic for work,

and using the pieces i had already in my wardrobe 

(chandelier earrings, various gold bangles, shawls, a printed

 bohemian-style dress and a handmade floral headpiece 

and heavily drawn-in eyebrows) i managed to pull off 

a modern version of mexican artist,

  frida kahlo.

and not to be outdone--

talula insisted on dressing up as well.

esther quek, fashion director of men's magazine, the rake,

wears menswear better than most men.

her powerful power-suit wearing makes me wish that

 i could pull off a suited look- but alas, my curvy figure 

is made only for dresses. 

oh well.

if only these fantastic prints and notebooks from dubai-based creative 

 shahir zag were actually available for purchase, 

i think my whole apartment would be

wall-papered in them. 

♥ the world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.

the last time i saw ada the globetrotting doll, she was tumbling around

in one of my handbags, not seeing much of anything except my cat's bed and

the places where i worked and walked. if i had the chance to host her again,

i should think i would bring her to fancier points of interest in boston,

and maybe buy her a new dress while i'm at it.

since her stay in boston, it seems this traveling doll has been very busy.

lives the kind of life real girls could only dream about...

♥ a fool for tulle. part six.

tonight, while watching it happened on 5th avenue (1947), i fell head over tulle-

loving heels for this beautiful black gown worn by young actress, gale storm. 

the asymmetrical neckline is divine, but it is the outer layer of tulle that

 made my heart skip a beat!  in a similar fashion, raf simons recently sent

 out a number of tulle-wrapped frocks for his first ready to wear collection at

 christian dior. it's like two dresses in one.
