when i saw the work of famed illustrator olaf hajek on bonjour johanna, 

i was immediately reminded of the written work of one of my

 favorite writers of all time, gabriel garcia marquez. 

i am not sure why, exactly. 

maybe it's the artist's use of saturated colors, his lush landscapes,

the life-like flora & fauna, the attention to detail mixed with the far-fetched,

something about it just screamed "magical realism!"

and then i read the description for the book of olaf hajek's latest work,

black antoinette, and it became clear that i wasn't imagining the connection :)
