♥ i want to make beautiful things. even if nobody cares.

last night i watched the facts of life (1960) on netflix,
and i could not help but notice the adorable movie title sequences that
played during the opening credits. a google search later brought up
the work of american graphic designer/ film maker, saul bass.

as you can tell from the images below, bass was a very prolific artist,
creating movie titles for some of the most well known films of our time.
(see more here.)

“I want everything we do – that I do personally, that our office does – to be beautiful. I don’t give a damn whether a client understands that that’s worth anything, or that a client thinks it’s worth anything, or whether it is worth anything. It’s worth it to me.  It’s the way I want to live my life. I want to make beautiful things.
Even if nobody cares.”

♥ sweet escape.

my neighbor totoro is one of my favorite animated films.  ever.
granted, nick and i do watch a lot of miyazaki films, but this one
takes the cake for being so stinking cute.

which is why i totally love this totoro is my hero necklace
from etsy shop that kate creates.

ps. did you spot his furry little self on the set of toy story 3?

♥ star spangled.

too late to recall
and i was too tired to try
to reach out for old, worn-out dreams
