♥ the literary life well lived.

how adorable is warby parker's latest ad?
it's very royal tenenbaums-inspired if you ask me--
(especially the detailed illustrations of the
 starring couple's apartment!)

my favorite part of (of course) is how it is
dedicated to "the literary life well lived"
which is definitely the best
kind of lifestyle.

the fall 2013 collection is vintage nerd chic at it's best.
i think i need a new pair immediately, if not sooner.

♥ pesto is the best-o!

i love me some good pesto--
but pine nuts are too expensive to
justify making it from scratch.

which is why i must share with you
this fabulous recipe for edamame pesto-
which is packed with five times the fiber
and one-fifth the fat of regular pesto,
and an equally delicious flavor!

edamame pesto:
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
1 cup of packed basil leaves
1 package of frozen, shelled edamame-thawed
1/2 cup of vegetable broth
2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon of olive oil
1/2 teaspoon of salt

directions:
1) place the garlic and basil in a food processor and pulse a few times.
2) add the remaining ingredients and blend until relatively smooth.
3) add a little more vegetable broth if it seems to stiff and set aside.

add the pesto to the following:

1 package of linguine
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 small red onion, sliced thinly
1/2 pound of mushrooms, sliced
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 teaspoon of thyme
extra chopped fresh basil

directions:

1) put  on a pot of salted water to boil. cook pasta and drain.
2) saute the onion in oil for about 5 minutes. add mushrooms, garlic and thyme.
3) cover the pot and cook for 5 more minutes.
4) add pasta to the pan and then add pesto.
5) garnish with chopped basil.
6) ENJOY!!

♥ gonna make you sweat.

i would have slapped you across the face and called you crazy-
but here i am- shivering every morning on the way to work-
wishing i fuzzy sweatshirt to pull over my head.

♥ the bold and the beautiful.

images via the sartorialist

my new favorite designer of the moment is
haitian/italian designer, stella jean.

after winning vogue italia's 2011 who's on next,
she was invited by giorgio armani himself
to show her first collection at his personal show
space, the armani theater.

sourcing ethically-made fabric from africa, and mixing it
with modern and vintage silhouettes, gorgeous headpieces,
knockout jewelry and layers galore- stella jean's
work is a force to be reckoned with.

i cannot wait to see more!

if you agree-- here is an up-close look with suzy menkes:

♥ happy fall!

image via the dancing cat.
i am definitely not one of those people with compulsive fall disorder,
celebrating all things pumpkin-flavored, autumn-hued and #fallingforfall,
(i live in dresses year round for goodness sakes!) but i am loving the crispness in
the air, the color of the sky at night, and the opportunity to change--
right along with the season.

what do/don't you love about this time of year?

in yet another astounding post on jezebel, the numbers from new york fashion week
were crunched to reveal the terribly skewed racial lines in the world of fashion.

"of the 142 shows out of the 184 that showed at mercedes benz fashion
week for spring/summer 2014*, there were 4637 looks.
of those close to 5,000 looks, around 80 percent
were modeled by white women."

it is shocking to think that it is 2013 and some designers  are still
choosing to give such a limited view of who their "ideal" customer is.
when the world is so diverse and colorful, why just rely on
 one type of look?

a designer who has been applauded for the diversity of her shows
is my personal favorite, diane von furstenberg, who seeks always to
glorify women- of all colors.

yet another reason why
she's the best.

♥ i've overheard your theory: "nostalgia's for geeks." i guess, sir, if you say so. some of us just like to read.

it's september. the year is more than half over-
and i have not read as many books as i would have liked.
blame it on a busy work schedule, a short attention span, etc.-
the fact is i have not made enough time for books.
and while it is disappointing-- i know that my library
if not going anywhere, and there will be
time enough to spend with them,
some day, when i am not
so distracted.

what have you read this year?
i am currently reading a book of short stories,
called kissing in manhattan. it's wonderful.
and here's what i've read this year so far:

The Virgin Suicides
Jazz
Jazz
On Chesil Beach
Travels with Charley: In Search of America
Elegies for the Brokenhearted
Winter Hours: Prose, Prose Poems, and Poems
Haroun And The Sea Of Stories
I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman
Cannery Row
The Tombs of Atuan
An Object of Beauty
A Wizard of Earthsea
Olive Kitteridge

Gunn's Golden Rules: Life's Little Lessons for Making It Work

♥ size matters.

i know that last week i was coming around to the idea of small, delicate jewelry-
but who am i kidding? when it comes to baubles- in my opinion,
 bigger is ALWAYS better.

i mean, can you even stand the size of these chunky chains,
insect pins and fancy word necklaces from the
me neither.

♥ hair today, gone tomorrow.

i have been patiently awaiting the day it would grow to
a normal length-- one that covers my very round face,
and also allows me to participate better in
hair events and hair product reviews
due to the sheer fact that there's
more of it.

with that said, i would love to introduce you to
a brand new natural haircare line: briogeo

i was sent a few samples to try and i must
tell you that not only do the shampoos and conditioners
smell amazing, lather up luxuriously, and also leave my hair
feeling cleansed and fluffy and amazing, but they are also
made up of 95% naturally-derived ingredients!

wash my hair in dazzling vitamins and herbs like
ginger, aloe vera, argan oil, avocado,
 bamboo, and green tea?
don't mind if i do!!

and the icing on the
very healthy, delicious cake is
that they are made for all hair types-
so, enjoy, my curly, straight,
over-processed, fine-haired
friends :)
