♥ dream come true.

ok, so first, please ignore this very unflattering picture of me-
(bad angle + bad ponytail = just plain bad.) and take a look at the
famous literary lady i have my arm around.

i spotted ms. joan didion in the lobby of my hotel tonight and nearly passed out
from nerdy/giddy glee before rushing over to get my photo op with her.

last year i read and cried and soaked up every last word of her heartbreaking work,
the year of magical thinking and she has recently published a follow up to
that book, blue nights, which i hear is equally stunning.

if you have not read any of didion's work, i urge you to pick up
one of the many stories, memoirs, novels of this prolific author,
and i promise you: it will be magical.

7 ♥ love notes.:

  2. Well, I honestly don't know anything about her, but I'm still so happy that you ran into someone you admire so much! How awesome! That solo trip sounds like it's going perfectly :)

  3. How awesome, my little bookworm! And FYI, this is not a bad picture of you because you still look adorable in it.

  4. I, too, am a literary geek, and I'm a Boston blogger! So we're basically twins. My husband loves Didion, though I haven't read her novels. They're next on my "Must Read" list. Was she in Boston recently? Hubby's going to be upset he missed her!

I'd love if you'd visit my blog. I'm having so much fun finding other girls who are part of the Boston blogging community!

  5. How lovely that you met Ms. Didion! I've heard so many great things about The Year of Magical Thinking, I think I'm going to have to pick it up asap.

  6. That's a huge spotting! Was she gracious when you asked to take a photo with her? I liked The Year of Magical Thinking, and am planning on picking up Blue Nights sometime soon. Have you read Slouching Towards Bethlehem? Honestly, she's not my favorite nonfiction writer, but some of her work has really resonated with me and I respect her completely.

  7. So happy for you. This was years ago, but must be a Forever kind of highlight. I'm reading the new biography of her right now...
