♥ there are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts.

the nerd in me was tickled when i discovered this tumblr,
better book titles, which aims to cut right to the chase and
give the whole gist of the book away in a single line.

♥ extra polish.

cupcakes & cashmere

a fun new nail trend that i have been noticing alot lately
has been to paint eight of your nails in a neutral color and paint
two of them (say your ring finger nails or your pointer fingers)
in an offbeat color. when done well, it looks
cool and clever- have you tried it yet?

for me, for you

♥ one good thing about music: when it hits you, you feel no pain.

i have been very out of the musical loop as of late.
so out of the loop, i can admit to you that when ashley simpson
came up on my ipod today, i didn't turn it off.

for this reason, i was so happy when i heard that
fiery furnaces frontwoman, eleanor friedberger has recently
come out with her own solo album, last summer.

i just love her unique voice and her equally unique look.

ps. here's her newest single:

pps. watch a video about her style.

♥ "inspiration can spring up anywhere and anytime, so i try to be open to that and have a camera handy." ~ debbie carlos

i don't know which i enjoy more--
debbie carlos' fantastic posters or the adorable way
she styled & photographed each of them.

thank goodness i don't actually have to make a choice.

♥ the longer i live, the more beautiful life becomes.

being the facebook stalker that i am, (aren't we all?) i could not help
but notice when my childhood friend, sara, began posting these
gorgeous photos of the sunshine on the water from a
 seemingly similar spot each day.

intrigued, i had to pester her and learn what it was all about-
was she making some sort of photo series?
what was she doing each day in the same spot?
and why on earth was she up so early?

the answer was simple- sara is part of the
masters rowing program at boston university.
she rows each morning before work, between 6:30 & 8am
and she finds a spot on the BU bridge where she takes her
beautiful snapshots and instantly uploads them to fb
from her iphone. gotta love technology for allowing
creeps like me to see what sara is up to, and for
allowing me to share it with you.

♥ the beautiful and the damned.

this weekend, nick and i finally saw woody allen's new film
midnight in paris (2011), and i am happy to report that
we found it absolutely charming.

two of my favorite characters in the film were literary celebrities
zelda and f. scott fitzgerald- who in the 1920's were the embodiment of the
jazz age and all of the youth, glamour and craziness that went along with that time.

nick and i were got to talking about how sad it is that reality stars
have replaced literary celebrities- and much like owen wilson's character in the film,
i started whining about what a shame it is we didn't live in a different time,
when f.scott & zelda fitzgerald were the cat's pajamas.

♥ don't count every hour in the day. make every hour in the day count.

when i first started writing a glimpse of glamour, i would look at other blogs and think
to myself- "gahhh- i wish i could have those clothes, that hair, that lifestyle, etc."
and now, here i am two years later, working two jobs and planning
a wedding and the only thing i envy when i read someone
else's blog is the amount of free time
 they seem to have.

i often dream about how nice it would be to wake up and have the whole day
spread out before me- to be able to go outside and let me body soak in the
sunshine and drink in the summer air, to lounge about with my cat,
or lay on my porch with an endless pile of books and magazines
and wash it all down with a yummy cup of iced coffee, to
talk and laugh and catch up with all of my loved ones,
to spend all late afternoon preparing an absurd-
but delicious dinner, and bake a cake recipe
i have been holding onto for such an
extraordinary occasion
such as this:
life.

♥ oh, honey.

tonight my friends and i went to see the new winnie the pooh movie
(yes, you read that right) and i am not going to lie,
it left me feeling a little rumbly in my tumbly-
with one thing on my mind:
  honey.

can you blame me?
so for this reason i thought i would share some fabulous looking,
honey-filled recipes that i definitely need to try,
like, right now.

this spiced orange & honey sorbet looks to. die. for.

this majestic & moist honey cake looks like just that.

as does this delectable looking honey gold oatmeal bread.

these honey-sweetened thumb print cookies look marvelous.

these honey & jam tarts look too good to be true.

honey-glazed carrots are as close to candy as a vegetable can get.

♥ don't wait for your ship to come in; swim out to it.

source.

on hot & humid summer days like today i find myself wishing that i had
a swimming pool, and maybe the aquatic adroitness of hollywood
swim star, esther williams- to entertain the masses with while
i cooled off. for those of you who have never seen
ms. williams in action, you are in for a treat.

a once olympic athlete, the beautiful swimmer starred in over
twenty aquatic musicals- ad libbing most of her underwater choreography,
taking naps in the water, and logging mile after mile of swim time-
while also giving birth to three children in between films!

the million dollar mermaid, as she came to be called,
went on to license her name to a swimsuit line purposely geared
towards older women, whose bodies had changed with childbirth and age-
"somebody has to give a little thought to the woman who has nursed a
baby and i want to apply my knowledge of what feels good in the water for
that woman. i think there's a void in the market right now for that kind of swimsuit."

now, if only more designers felt that way...
