admittedly, i am a very nosey person.
and so, if you ever happen to find yourself on the train
with me, you can bet that i will be peering over your shoulder
to see what it is you are reading.

sometimes, when i spot someone reading a book that i am particularly
fond of, i have a strong urge to grab this stranger by the shoulders
and tell them how lucky they are to be reading that book for the
first time, and to remind them to soak in every word and detail,
or to ask their opinion about what they think happened
at the end. of course, i restrain myself rather than do
the socially awkward thing i picture in my head.
but lately, i have been wanting to break that
uncomfortable code of silence that we have amongst
crowds of strangers, and say "hey, how is that book?
i have heard good things.." and see just what kind of response
i actually get.
because, when you think of it, the love of reading is
something that should never, ever be stifled,
and should always, always
be shared. ♥
I always have that urge, too! Let me know how it goes over when you do break the silence.
ReplyDeleteI feel the exact same way! Trust me you are not alone. If you're looking for another great read i just finished "Cutting for Stone" by Abraham Verhese and it was amazing!
ReplyDeleteA stranger not too long ago commented on the book I was reading while we were on the bus. It certainly took me aback a bit, but she simply told me she really enjoyed and I said I was too and that was that. Not a bad thing at all!
ReplyDeleteSo, so true. I can't help myself, I love to talk about books to anyone.
