♥ slow down and love someone.

as someone who is often found performing multiple tasks at once,
who never ever naps, barely takes a day off, and is very horrible
at relaxing in general- i was quite intrigued when i read about
the slow art project by winnepeg artist, dominique rey.

sick of running the rat race, ms. rey took a ten day meditation
class which required her to spend eleven hours in complete
silence, while practicing sustained slowness. this experience
has led to a dedication towards slowing down and creating
meaningful art. her billboards with the "do less, slowly" slowgan
are located in several cities, serving as a reminder
to do just that.

on her blog, which she refers to as a forum of sorts,
dominique maintains a slow list, with sage advice such as:

1) re-encounter your dwelling using only your senses, such as smell,
taste and touch.

4) practice doing nothing once a day.

7) leave your watch at home.

8) read a poem out loud.

to add to the list i would say:

take turns reading a chapter of a book aloud to whoever you live with.

take time to actually play with your pet. they are the key to a longer life!

look up from whatever you are doing when you are on a train or in a large
crowd- acknowledge the people you see and bless each one of them-
imagine they are doing the same for you.

what would you add?

8 ♥ love notes.:

  1. i loooooove this post. thanks so much for posting it! in a world where it seems that being a workaholic is prized above everything else, it's nice to know that we are "allowed" to do nothing, to do less. and to do less, slowly? so inspiring...! i love what you've added and will seriously try to do some of these!

  2. i just added my own to her slow list:

Wake early, even on a weekend, when the world is still grey and blue and silent. Move about slowly, make a cup of tea, sit outside and listen to the world awaken.

  3. what a great thought and something to remember. i find myself constantly multi-tasking and maybe i really don't need to be.

  4. I think slowing down and doing nothing is definitely a luxury. For me I just find it hard to do nothing when I know I have a million other things that need to be done...I can't enjoy it or really relax.

  5. I like to make breakfast and sit down with my husband and pups in the morning. It's a quick meal but makes the morning just a little bit more special.

  8. Ach! I'm awful about just doing nothing. I've been slowing down though after I asked myself "why" I was hurrying and multi-tasking all the time. I figure, when I'm on my death bed, I'm not going to say, that I wished that I had gotten more done....so, i'm slowing down. Doesn't always work though.....
