a few months ago, michael of the trendy dwarf posted about sprezzatura, a fantastic
italian term, which according to wikipedia is derived from baldassare castiglione's
book of the courtier, where he defines it as "a certain nonchalance, so as to conceal all art
and make whatever one does or says appear to be without effort and almost
without any thought about it."
this "studied carelessness" as the oxford english dictionary explains it,
is something that michael celebrates in each and every one of his street style
photographs. people of new york who look undone, free, and stylish,
but effortlessly so.
i am going to make an effort to use the word sprezzatura three times this weekend.
do you have any new words i should know??
