♥ beautiful in this skin.

just the other day i had the luck of meeting artist, kelsey henderson,
who just so happens to be the daughter of a lovely interior designer that i work with.

kelsey's artwork is both mysterious and arresting. her subjects gaze directly at you,
leaving themselves vulnerable to interpretation and open to what henderson describes
as platonic infatuation. these platonic crushes are basically explained to be
"an attraction to beauty devoid of sex, ignoring gender and embracing
physical and emotional flaws."

kelsey hand.picks her models, most of whom are strangers and friends of friends,
and she does so based on an immediate attraction to the subject's skin quality and
perhaps their unconventional beauty, for example, if she notices a bruise or scar.
i love the way her works are purposely imperfect and incredibly realistic
all at the same time.

one of the projects of kelsey's that i was particularly enamored with is the
video/art collaboration she did for fly 16X9, which featured paintings
with models wearing specific pieces from dior.

watch as kelsey uses fashion photography to inform her paintings,
and feel free to crush a bit...
(even if its just on those incredible pink dior shoes!)

pssst..for those of you, who are unfamiliar with fly 16 X 9, it is
"the first fully digital magazine where music meets art meets video."
um, love it.

from today, september 3rd, through the 25th, see kelsey's collection,
"pallid spell" on exhibition in mahan gallery in columbus, ohio.

4 ♥ love notes.:

  1. Wow!!
Hands & feet are incredibly hard to paint accurately and realistically, but OMG look at these..! So impressive!

Thanks for sharing and for your comment on my 'hungry lamps' just now.. :)

    Have a great weekend.
